In addition to its natural beauty, it is also famous for its wild nightlife, which attracts many young people every summer.
Where is Corfu located?
Corfu is the Ionian largest and capital island. It is also the archipelago’s most exposed island to the north, and its eastern part overlooks the Albanian coast, only a few kilometers away.
How to get to Corfu Island?
The island is easily accessible by air from major Greek and European airports, thanks to an international airport on the island that offers hundreds of flights a day.
What ports to sail or take refuge for the night from?
The island is dotted with tourist ports, some more important and some more equipped.
Corfu’s most important port is Gouvia Marina, a large port located in the town of Kontokali. With over 1200 berths, it is truly capable of meeting every space need. In fact, it can accommodate boats up to 80 meters long and a maximum draft of 5.5 meters. This 5-star marina offers its customers the best in terms of services and equipment.
Among the other tourist ports distributed on the island, we mention: Limin Kerkyra, located in Corfu city and equipped with 100 berths with a maximum length of 20 meters and a maximum draft of 3 meters;
Kassiopi Marina, located north of the island, is a small marina with only 20 berths for a maximum of 16 meters in length; Kavos Marina, located south in Kavos city, has immediate access to the Ionian Sea; Paleokastritsa Marina, the large port of Paleokastritsa city, is located on the west coast. It can accommodate boats up to 60 meters long.
What attractions does Corfu offer its visitors?
Corfu city, the main town on the island, is a mix of cultures, both in its architecture and culture. In fact, the signs of the different dominations that have occurred over the centuries are evident, first Byzantine and Venetian, then French and English. Nobody can say they have visited the island without getting lost in its labyrinth of streets and alleys. Its main attractions include the Old Fortress, built by the Byzantines and Venetians atop the hill that borders the city to the east, a promontory overlooking the sea where the fort stands, surrounded by a canal.
Opposite the fortress and very close to the beautiful Spianada square, there is the Liston of Corfu, a colonnade built in the Napoleonic era and very similar to the famous Rue de Rivoli in Paris.
Popular culture says it gets the name Liston because at the gates of the city, there was a list of people who could or could not walk along this boulevard.
Today, it is one of the liveliest neighborhoods in the city, with Corfiots and tourists flocking to the many bars and restaurants during happy hours.
Corfu is also known for its beautiful beaches. Among them, Paleokastritsa beach is considered the most beautiful on the island.
Myrtiotissa, instead, is characterized by a wild aspect, with high cliffs surrounding it.
Finally, the beach of Agios Georgios Pagi is characterized by golden sand and is five kilometers long. The sea-bathing beaches of Corfu have emerald waters and are characterized by high-end tourism.
