The leading destination in terms of beach parties and nightlife, the Balearic Islands have always been one of the favorite haunts for yachts during summer.

Before setting out to sail in these waters with your rented boat or yacht, it is good to have a complete idea of what this region has to offer in terms of services for boats, ports, marinas, and areas where to anchor.

What’s to know better before dropping off the anchor in the Balearics?

It is natural to wonder why sailors and navigators so well frequent this area in general. The answers can be many: the presence of hundreds of more or less hidden bays, breathtaking views and colorful and cheerful towns where you can spend your time, the fun guaranteed by the company of nightclubs and discos on the beach, a mild climate all year round.

However, what we think most attracts sailors is the fact that this region’s seas are relatively calm all year round and allow navigation to all kinds of skippers, from the most experienced one, looking for new routes, to the neophyte grappling with his first experience.

This fact, combined with the wide range of boat dedicated services, makes them probably the most wanted archipelago in the Mediterranean Sea.

Each of the four islands that make up the Balearic archipelago has something different to offer. Let’s see specifically the characteristics of them all:

The best anchorages, marinas, and yacht clubs of Mallorca

It is the largest Island of the archipelago and is also home to the capital of the Balearics’ autonomous community, Palma de Mallorca.

During the summer, tourists from all over the world are besieged, both on land and on the sea. Despite this bother, it is worth a visit, and it is still possible to find routes to escape the masses.

Here are some destinations that are worth the “effort” of dropping the anchor off!

  • Sa Foradada bay. Located on the coast of Tramuntana, it can only be reached by boat or on foot. This bay enjoys excellent popularity among sailors.
  • Cala Blava. Bay is in the Gulf of Palma. It is not so touristy and therefore less populated.
  • Portopetro. A small fishing village with a population of about 500 inhabitants consisting of a very characteristic small port.
  • Punta de La Avanzada. A promontory located in the northeast of Mallorca from which you can enjoy a breathtaking view.
  • Sa Dragonera. An islet, perhaps more like a rock, located to the northwest.

Talking about the best marinas while mooring your boat, we show you below a selection of the best ones divided by the island areas. the-best-ports-marinas-balearics

The best tips to moor your boat in Mallorca, Balearic Islands

Palma de Mallorca‘s surroundings certainly deserve to be mentioned the Club de Mar, a modern and equipped port capable of hosting from small boats up to Superyachts. The Real Club Nautico de Palma, which enjoys an excellent location near Palma de Mallorca’s heart, the most cosmopolitan city of the archipelago.

Slightly off-center from the capital but still in the Palma bay, Puerto Portals is an exclusive marina and one of the most prestigious sailing destinations.

Moving toward the north, we would like to point out the Marina Tramuntana, located in Port Soller and surrounded by one of the most beautiful natural surroundings on the Island.

Distant to the northwest, there are the marinas of Andratx and Porto Adriano. Both offer their visitors modern and 24/7 opened services, as well as an excellent selection of restaurants, clubs, and water sports.

Finally, we recommend the Yacht Club Cala d’Or. Located on the Island’s southern coast, it offers a prestigious range of amenities, including accommodations, business services, and access to a wide range of leisure options.

The best anchorages, marinas, and yacht clubs of Menorca

Menorca is undoubtedly the wildest of the four archipelago islands. It is also the least traveled by mass tourism in search of fun. Second, in order of size, it is indeed full of appeals from sailors in their exploration mood and from those who wish to spend a peaceful sailing holiday.

Among the most attractive bays, we recommend Cala Mitjana, the perfect place to enjoy Menorca to the fullest on your yacht, Cala Fornells, Illa d’en Colom, and Sa Ninja.

The best anchorages, marinas, and yacht clubs of Ibiza

Balearic Islands capital for entertainment and parties, its coast also has a lot to offer to sailors, starting with its port, named a World Heritage Site.

There is no shortage of inlets and bays here for those looking for a bit of peace and solitude. Among the possible destinations, we point out the natural park of Ses Salines, renowned for the landscapes and the nature surrounding it.
