Sicily and Malta are two top destinations of European tourism during the summer period. Find out in this article how to combine both of these destinations into a single unmissable experience onboard a yacht for rent:
Why sail from Syracuse? How to reach this marina?
For our boat holiday, we chose to sail from Syracuse, a city in eastern Sicily overlooking the Ionian Sea. Syracuse is rich in history and culture and an authentic architectural gem that deserves to be visited.
Syracuse is easily accessible by air. Catania’s “Vincenzo Bellini” Fontanarossa International Airport is only 45 minutes by car from the city center.
Marina Yachting in Syracuse, also known as “Porto Grande,” is the perfect port to set sail for our itinerary. In addition to offering excellent customer support, it can accommodate up to 180 boats up to 35 meters in length and a maximum draft of 5 meters.
Why choose Malta for your next vacation?
The Maltese Republic is an archipelago of two significant islands, Malta and Gozo, and a third smaller island, Comino.
There are numerous beaches and even more coves where you can stop and spend the day between a dip and a sunbath. Among the most famous are the “blue lagoon” beach on Comino Island, Ramla Bay on Gozo, and Golden Bay on Malta.
This small country, however, is not only suitable for those in search of sun, sand, and tan but also lends itself to cultural tourism. There are numerous historical places of interest, starting from the capital, Valletta, famous for its medieval walls from which it also takes the name of city-fortress.
Made up of many narrow streets, its medieval historic center preserves the characteristic signs of that historical period, which is why it has been named a UNESCO heritage site.
Floating quickly on the waves of the sea with your boat, we recommend that you discover the impressive Gozo megalithic temples and the site of Hal Saflieni, famous as the only underground prehistoric temple in the world.
We believe the best way to experience all the nuances this archipelago offers its visitors is through a boat trip. Malta and its natural beauties lend themselves perfectly to be discovered one after the other, floating quickly on the sea.
What are the main marinas in Malta?
Malta seems tailor-made for sailing and navigation lovers, not only because it is rich in natural bays and inlets but also, above all, for the large number of marinas that the island offers to its yachtsmen.
The bay that protects Valletta is, in fact, a large port area where there are some of the best-equipped marinas in the Mediterranean Sea that can accommodate even large boats. Among these, we mention the Grand Harbor Marina near the Sant’Elmo lighthouse. It offers 240 berths and can accommodate boats up to 135 meters long and 5 meters of draft.
On the other hand, Roland Marina is located in the Ta ‘Xbiex stream inside the protected port of Marsamxetto. It offers a full-service open 24 hours a day and has 150 berths available for yachts up to 32 meters long and a draft up to 10 meters.
Finally, we point out the Manoel Island Yacht Marina on the southern coast of Manoel’s tiny island. It can accommodate 300 boats up to 80 meters in length and 18 meters of draft.
What could be a possible 7-day itinerary from Sicily to Malta?
At Your Boat Holiday, we specialize in preparing and managing itineraries tailored to our customer’s requests and preferences. What you see below is just one of the many possible itineraries that our company usually organizes between Sicily and Malta islands:
- Day 1: Syracuse
After making acquaintance with the crew, we set sail from the Syracuse marina, heading south. We spent the first hours on the boat acclimatizing between a welcome cocktail and a few dives off the Sicilian coast.
- Day 2: Calamosche and Noto
We begin the actual navigation, arriving at the first of the two Sicilian destinations, where we will stop during the approach march to Malta: we will have the opportunity to visit the beach of Calamosche and the nearby town of Noto, famous all over the world for its Baroque architecture declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
Day 3: Marzamemi
The following day, we headed to Marzamemi, our second and last appointment with Sicilian beauties. Considered one of the most typical villages of eastern Sicily, Marzamemi is an ancient fishing village that has become a destination for tourists in search of its picturesque and colorful places.
- Day 4: Valletta, in Malta, and the Golden Bay
We finally arrive on the Republic of Malta’s main island. Here, we are spoiled for choice on how to spend the day. A visit to the capital, Valletta, can be a good way to spend the morning walking along its ramparts and savoring some Maltese culinary traditions and typical dishes for lunch.
In the afternoon, we will sail to the northwest coast to reach Golden Bay and its magnificent beach.
- Day 5: Gozo
The following day, we moved north to the second-largest island in this tiny nation, Gozo. Here, we spent the day looking for the best beaches and bays to drop anchor and dip in the sea. Among the many, we could not resist visiting Ramla beach.
- Day 6: Comino
We end our adventure in Malta by visiting an authentic natural wonder on Comino’s island, the smallest of the Maltese archipelago. We are talking about the Blue Lagoon, a stretch of sea with shades ranging from blue to turquoise, home to many marine species such as dolphins and sea lions.
- Day 7: Back to Sicily to disembark and enjoy your relaxing last day in Syracuse;
