What is an e-Foil exactly?

The birth of the e-foil, or at least the prototype, dates back to 2009 in Sweden.

An e-foil, electronic foil, is a mix of different and new sports: surfing, kite foiling, and deep powder snowboarding. It is a surfboard to which an electric motor is added and mounted on a hydrofoil wing.

As we said, it is mounted on a wing with a propeller under a high-performance surfboard. The foil and wings combine to allow surfers of all abilities and experience levels to fly above a body of water, even when there is no wind and in the absence of waves.

How does it work?

The electric motor is very silent and is powered by an easily rechargeable lithium battery. The powerful and quiet 5,000 kW “brushless” electric propulsion system is completely waterproof. When the battery is almost flat, it automatically switches to reduced power so the rider can return to shore safely.

The battery is protected against overheating, short circuits, and voltage fluctuations. It takes around 2 hours to fully charge, with the ability to assign multiple batteries in one go, meaning when you use one battery, the other is already charging. This translates into non-stop fun on the high seas.

Considering its small size and low weight at just 20 kilograms, the e-foil can be easily disassembled for transport and storage on board your yacht.

Thanks to the electric propulsion, the e-foil does not pollute, does not disturb anyone, and can be used safely along the coast, in bays, and in marine areas.

Adrenaline and safety are guaranteed with an e-foil aboard your yacht

The e-foil reaches up to 40 kilometers per hour while traveling at the water’s edge.

Speed control is exclusive to the rider/surfer who, using the Bluetooth wireless controller, can choose how much to push on the accelerator and how fast to sail.

With integrated safety features, the controller autonomously and immediately stops the engine if the pilot falls into the water, minimizing the chances of injury.

Is it challenging to ride an e-foil?

There are no particular difficulties in learning this discipline, although it requires a few hours of effort, especially if you are an absolute novice.

Although some boards are more significant and others more minor, the only rules to follow are the rider’s age, which must be at least 16 years old, and his weight, which must not exceed 120 kilograms.

Your approach to this sport will be more straightforward if you already have experience surfing, wakeboarding, skateboarding, or snowboarding, as mastering the balance on the board is the key to getting it.

The first phase, therefore, consists in getting on the board face down and then gradually learning to stand up, understanding how to stay balanced while maintaining a firm but agile position.

After familiarizing yourself with the board, the second step is understanding how it works through the Bluetooth controller, trying to perform small maneuvers, and controlling the steering.

If you’re wondering if you’d be able to, don’t worry! During all learning phases, you will be followed by your crew. An expert will always be by your side and will guide you step by step to master e-foil, giving you tips and advice. Charter guests usually feel pretty comfortable on the e-foil after just one test day and are ready for the real fun to begin.

A new way of understanding water sports: yachts with e-foil

A whole new way to enjoy the water, e-foil lets you experience an exciting experience from a never-before-seen perspective.

The sensations experienced while driving an e-foil cannot easily be expressed in words but must be experienced in the first person to understand what we are talking about.

Choosing to have one (or more) on board your yacht charter will certainly not leave you disappointed. On the contrary, it will enrich your sailing holiday, offering you something different and exciting, in addition to the classic water games such as jet skiing or the Seabob.
