Cuba has gained the status of a highly sought-after tourist destination in recent decades thanks to its peculiarities that combine a unique local culture, scenarios, and environments that take you back in time and nature, both terrestrial and marine, among the most beautiful in the Caribbean.

Cienfuegos is instead one of those small Cuban towns that enchant visitors with its atmosphere halfway between the French colonial style and the genuine and cheerful Caribbean soul of its inhabitants.

These are the reasons why millions of visitors choose to come to Cuba every year and stop, even if only for one day, in this beautiful town declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2005.

Where is Cienfuegos located?

Cienfuegos, nicknamed “La Perla del Sur”, the pearl of the south, is located on the southern coast of Cuba island and is the capital of the province of the same name. It is located about 250 kilometers from the capital Havana and has a population of around 150,000.

How to get here?

In our opinion, the best way to reach the city is to land at the José Martí International Airport in Havana and then take the Circuito Sur “Southern Circuit” highway, a west-east highway connecting the south-western part of the island.

What is the best time to sail in Cienfuegos, Cuba?

The Cuban climate ranges from tropical to subtropical. The sun shines all year round and the temperatures are pleasantly warm and, depending on the season, between 20 ° C and 30 ° C. The rainy season runs from May to November although, generally, long periods of rain never occur.

So if you prefer to enjoy the beach and dive, the best time to travel here is from January to April. If, on the other hand, you are more interested in local culture, we recommend August and September, the season in which the most famous and important music festivals take place.

What not to miss around the city?

Cienfuegos is a city that offers numerous activities to do in its surroundings.

Without a doubt, one of the places not to be missed is El Nicho, a series of spectacular waterfalls in the heart of the Sierra del Escambray. To reach them it is necessary to cross paths and bridges but, once there, you can cool off in one of its paradisiacal natural pools.

One of the best ways to spend time in the city is instead to stroll around Parque José Martí and discover the wonderful 19th-century architecture that surrounds it, such as the Arc de Triomphe, the Palacio del Gobierno (Government Palace), or the Catedral de la Purísima Concepción (Cathedral of the Most Pure Conception).

As for beaches, our choice is Playa Rancho Luna for its crystal clear waters.

If, on the other hand, you like flamingos, you can’t miss the flamingo reserve in the Guanaroca Lagoon, a short distance from the city center.

Which places can be reached by sailing from Cienfuegos?

Of course, the number of destinations that can be reached through your charter depends on its duration as Cuba is a very large island and reaching distant destinations means taking into account many hours of sea navigation.

These are some of the most commonly visited places on a boat trip departing from Cienfuegos:

  • Trinidad: Trinidad is a city in the center of Cuba located east of Cienfuegos and famous for its colonial-style old city with cobbled streets and neo-baroque buildings;
  • Cayo Guano, Cayo Largo, and Cayo Rico: are a series of paradisiacal islands and atolls located off the central southern coast of Cuba.
  • Playa Sirena: probably one of the most famous beaches in the whole country due to its beauty.

Why choose a boat trip here and not a traditional holiday?

In addition to experiencing a different kind of journey, choosing a boat trip means taking various advantages including greater freedom of movement between one location to another, greater comfort and service dedicated only to guests on board, and the opportunity to enjoy a privileged point of view.
