7-Day Crete Yacht Charter Itinerary
Discover the extraordinary coastline of western Crete on a seven-day luxury yacht charter, from the historic Venetian harbour of Chania to the turquoise lagoons of Balos and Elafonissi and the dramatic landscapes of the island's southwest coast. Cruise between secluded swimming bays, traditional seaside villages and spectacular natural settings that reveal a different side of Greece. This sample itinerary is designed for a suitable crewed motor yacht, with each passage, anchorage and shore experience tailored to your preferences and the prevailing weather conditions.
DAY 1
Chania & the Northwest Coast
Begin your yacht charter in the Chania area, where Crete’s Venetian heritage meets the beautiful waters of the Mediterranean. After embarkation at the yacht’s confirmed berth, enjoy a relaxed introduction to the coastline around Souda Bay and Marathi. Spend the afternoon swimming and enjoying lunch aboard before discovering the atmospheric streets and waterfront restaurants of Chania.
YBH note: Souda Bay offers practical port infrastructure for larger vessels, while Chania's historic Venetian harbour has restrictions and limited suitability for superyachts. Embarkation must be confirmed individually.
DAY 2
Balos Lagoon & Gramvousa
Cruise west toward the spectacular Gramvousa Peninsula, where Balos Lagoon is renowned for its brilliant turquoise shallows and dramatic natural scenery. Enjoy the views from the yacht and, when conditions and local regulations permit, explore suitable swimming areas by tender. Continue toward Gramvousa for more beautiful coastal scenery before spending the evening at a safe anchorage selected by your captain.
YBH note: Balos is a protected, shallow lagoon rather than a conventional large-yacht anchorage. Access, anchoring, tender operations and swimming must respect applicable environmental restrictions and weather conditions.
DAY 3
Gramvousa to Elafonissi
Continue around Crete’s western coastline toward Elafonissi, celebrated for its shallow turquoise waters, pale sand and remarkable natural beauty. Admire the coastline from the yacht and enjoy a swimming stop in a suitable offshore location. Spend the afternoon relaxing aboard against the backdrop of one of Crete’s most distinctive landscapes.
YBH note: Elafonissi is a sensitive protected coastal environment with shallow waters and restrictions. Large yachts should not approach the lagoon itself. The captain must assess suitable offshore stopping areas and permitted tender access.
DAY 4
Elafonissi to Paleochora
Cruise east along Crete’s rugged southern coastline toward Paleochora, a charming seaside town framed by beautiful beaches and mountain scenery. Enjoy swimming and water sports in a suitable bay before exploring the relaxed waterfront, traditional restaurants and welcoming atmosphere of this distinctive corner of the island.
YBH note: The southwest coast can be exposed to strong winds and swell. Harbour facilities and anchorage suitability must be checked according to the yacht's size and prevailing conditions.
DAY 5
Paleochora to Loutro
Follow the dramatic coastline eastward, passing remote beaches and rugged mountain scenery toward Loutro. This beautiful whitewashed village is accessible primarily by sea or on foot and offers a memorable sense of seclusion. Spend the afternoon swimming in clear waters before enjoying a traditional Cretan dinner overlooking the small harbour.
YBH note: Loutro's small harbour is unsuitable for many larger yachts. Visits generally require suitable offshore anchoring and tender arrangements. The southern coast is weather-dependent.
DAY 6
Loutro & Southwest Crete
Spend the day discovering the spectacular coastline around Loutro, with its remote coves, steep mountains and remarkably clear water. Cruise past the entrance to the Samaria Gorge area near Agia Roumeli and enjoy swimming or exploring the coastline by tender where conditions permit. Return westward to a suitable overnight position in preparation for the final passage toward Chania.
YBH note: This day should include meaningful westward repositioning if the charter is scheduled to finish in Chania. The captain may instead recommend an alternative south-coast disembarkation point, subject to yacht and transfer arrangements.
DAY 7
Return to Chania
Complete your journey along Crete’s western coastline, enjoying the island’s dramatic landscapes from the deck of your yacht. Depending on the agreed disembarkation time, the final passage may take place earlier in the itinerary to ensure a relaxed conclusion. Return to the confirmed marina or port in the Chania area, bringing your seven-day exploration of western Crete to an end.
YBH note: Returning from the south coast to Chania involves a substantial exposed passage around western Crete. For an early morning disembarkation, the yacht should normally reposition to the Chania area on Day 6. A one-way itinerary may be more practical for some charters.
