Fiji Yacht Charter
Luxury Yacht Charters in Fiji
A Fiji yacht charter centers on two island chains within easy reach of Port Denarau: the Mamanucas, close and sheltered, and the Yasawas, wilder and farther north. Between them lie calm lagoons, limestone caves you can swim into, reefs that draw divers from around the world, and villages where visits still follow local custom. A crewed yacht lets you move between them at your own pace, anchoring where the water is clearest rather than where the road ends.
Why Fiji Works So Well from the Water
Fiji’s appeal comes down to geography. The islands sit close together, the lagoons are sheltered by reefs, and the main anchorages are usually a few hours apart, so you spend a week in the water rather than on the water. Add traffic that is still light by Mediterranean standards and a culture that welcomes visitors, and you get a destination that suits first-time charter guests as well as seasoned ones.
✔ Dense island groups with short cruising distances
✔ Calm waters and protected anchorages
✔ Exceptional coral reefs and marine life
✔ Strong cultural heritage and welcoming communities
✔ Low yacht traffic compared to global charter hotspots
✔ Ideal for both first-time and experienced charter guests
A Fiji yacht charter blends ease, authenticity, and natural beauty in a way few Pacific destinations can match.
YBH Broker Insight: “In Fiji, the best moments are rarely on the itinerary. A village visit begins with a gift of kava offered to the chief, a custom a good crew knows how to arrange so guests are welcomed rather than treated as visitors passing through. The same crew knows which reef is clearest on a given tide and which anchorage will be calm that night. That local knowledge, more than the list of islands, is what I look for when I match a yacht to a Fiji charter.” — Giulia Di Leo, CEO & Founder, Your Boat Holiday
Two Island Chains, Two Different Weeks
The Mamanucas and the Yasawas sit side by side on the map but offer very different weeks. The Mamanucas are the easy chain: close to Port Denarau, sheltered by reef and dotted with sand cays and snorkeling stops, from Nuku-i-Mana, about 15 nautical miles from the marina, to Monuriki, the uninhabited island known from Cast Away. The Yasawas begin where the Mamanucas end and run north in a long volcanic line, with fewer people, longer beaches, the limestone caves of Sawa-i-Lau, the Blue Lagoon and villages where you are welcomed according to local custom. Most charters combine the two, starting gently and ending wild; longer trips can add the outer islands.
✔ Mamanuca Islands for easy access and scenic anchorages
✔ Yasawa Islands for dramatic landscapes and quiet bays
✔ Remote outer islands for deeper exploration
✔ Sheltered lagoons ideal for swimming and water sports
✔ Excellent snorkeling and diving throughout the archipelago
Most charters focus on one island group to maintain a relaxed pace and maximize time at anchor.
A Week from Denarau to the Yasawas
The most popular way to see both chains is a loop that starts and ends in Port Denarau. Our seven-day Denarau to Denarau itinerary shows how to split a week between the Mamanucas and the Yasawas, with a village visit and the Sawa-i-Lau caves along the way.
YOUR JOURNEY, DAY BY DAY
7-Day Fiji Yacht Charter Itinerary
A week aboard is an ideal introduction to Fiji, combining the easy island-hopping of the Mamanucas with the more remote landscapes of the Yasawa Islands. Starting and ending at Port Denarau, this sample itinerary moves through turquoise lagoons, coral reefs, white-sand beaches and traditional island communities, balancing time in the water with cultural experiences and relaxed days at anchor. Every itinerary is tailored to the yacht, weather conditions and your preferred pace.
DAY 1
Port Denarau to the Mamanuca Islands
Embark at Port Denarau and leave Viti Levu behind for the Mamanuca Islands. Settle into life aboard with a short first cruise through turquoise water, stopping for swimming and snorkelling before anchoring near Malolo or one of the surrounding islands for your first South Pacific sunset.
YBH note: The Mamanuca Islands are close to Port Denarau, making them ideal for the first day of a Fiji yacht charter without committing to a long passage immediately after embarkation.
DAY 2
Explore the Mamanuca Islands
Spend a full day exploring the Mamanucas, moving between coral-fringed islands, clear lagoons and secluded beaches. Swim, snorkel and enjoy the yacht’s water toys before heading ashore or remaining at anchor for a relaxed afternoon surrounded by the South Pacific.
YBH note: The Mamanucas offer numerous possible anchorages and reef stops, allowing the captain to select the day's route according to wind, sea conditions and guest preferences.
DAY 3
Mamanucas to the Yasawa Islands
Cruise north from the Mamanucas toward the Yasawa Islands as the scenery becomes increasingly dramatic. Volcanic peaks rise above clear lagoons and long beaches, creating a more remote atmosphere for an afternoon of swimming, snorkelling and exploration.
YBH note: The Yasawas introduce a more secluded side of Fiji, with dramatic volcanic landscapes, remote reefs and fewer developed islands than the Mamanucas.
DAY 4
Yasawa Islands & Fijian Village Experience
Spend the day deeper within the Yasawa chain, combining beautiful anchorages and water activities with a respectful visit to a local island community. Learn more about Fijian traditions and village life before returning aboard for a quiet evening surrounded by the islands.
YBH note: Village visits should always be coordinated in advance by the captain or local guide and conducted according to Fijian customs, including any appropriate sevusevu welcome ceremony.
DAY 5
Sawa-i-Lau Caves & Northern Yasawas
Cruise into the northern Yasawas toward Sawa-i-Lau, where striking limestone formations contrast with the volcanic islands of the surrounding chain. Head ashore to explore the famous saltwater caves before returning to the yacht for swimming, snorkelling and a relaxed afternoon in the surrounding lagoons.
YBH note: Access to the Sawa-i-Lau Caves should be coordinated locally and remains subject to conditions and community arrangements. Visiting earlier in the day can provide a quieter experience.
DAY 6
Yasawa Islands to the Mamanucas
Begin the cruise south toward the Mamanucas, stopping at a reef or secluded island along the way for swimming and snorkelling. Spend the afternoon enjoying the yacht’s water toys or simply relaxing aboard before a final night among Fiji’s western islands.
YBH note: The return south can be adapted around the yacht's cruising speed and conditions, with the captain selecting the most rewarding reef, beach or anchorage stops along the route.
DAY 7
Mamanuca Islands to Port Denarau
Enjoy a final morning in the Mamanucas with time for swimming or snorkelling before cruising back toward Port Denarau. Relax aboard during the final passage and take in the island scenery before disembarkation and your onward travel arrangements.
YBH note: The final day's program remains flexible around disembarkation time, flight schedules and the yacht's required return arrangements.

When to Sail, and When to Stay Ashore
The prime Fiji yacht charter season runs from May through October, during the cooler and generally drier period of the South Pacific year. June through September are particularly attractive, combining comfortable tropical temperatures, lower humidity and favourable conditions for exploring the Mamanuca and Yasawa Islands. April and November can offer rewarding transitional conditions with warm seas and fewer visitors. The warmer wet season runs from November through April and overlaps with the South Pacific tropical cyclone season, so summer charters require greater flexibility around rainfall, wind and regional weather systems.
✔ May – October: Prime cruising season
✔ June – September: Best overall conditions
✔ April & November: Transition periods with warm waters
✔ December – March: Wetter season with limited charter activity
Fiji’s seasonality aligns well with other South Pacific destinations.
YBH note: One of the strongest months for a Fiji yacht charter, with generally dry conditions, comfortable temperatures and excellent opportunities for island-hopping, snorkelling and diving across the western island groups.
Swimming, Diving and Sundowners at Anchor
What sets Fiji apart is how much happens off the yacht, all of it a short tender ride away. Mornings often begin with a swim or a snorkel on the nearest reef; afternoons might mean a dive with the manta rays that gather off Naviti between May and October, a private surf lesson near Mana Island, or a short hike to a viewpoint on Waya. Evenings belong to the deck: a beach barbecue on an uninhabited island, a sundowner at anchor, or a village feast with a traditional meke dance. Your crew sets the pace, and the plan can change with the weather or the group’s mood.
A yacht charter in Fiji is shaped by interaction, nature and comfort:
✔ Cruising between lush islands and turquoise bays
✔ Anchoring off white-sand beaches and coral reefs
✔ Snorkeling, diving and water sports directly from the yacht
✔ Visiting traditional villages and cultural sites
✔ Enjoying unhurried days in calm, protected waters
Fiji delivers a warm and engaging South Pacific cruising experience.
The Fleet Cruising the Islands
The yachts working in Fiji range from about 35 to almost 60 meters, built by yards on three continents. Northern Escape (40.8m, Benetti) takes twelve guests in six cabins with a crew of eight, and Mischief (54m, Baglietto) matches that guest count with a crew of fourteen. For guests who prefer to travel under sail, Kokomo (58.4m, Alloy Yachts) offers five cabins and a crew of ten. In waters this sheltered, size matters less for range than for how much room you want for the tender, the dive gear, and the people who join you.
Getting to Fiji and Joining Your Yacht
Most guests join their yacht at Port Denarau Marina, about 20 minutes by car from Nadi International Airport, one of the shortest airport-to-yacht transfers of any major charter destination. Fiji is a long way from most of the world: flights are direct from Australia and New Zealand, while guests from Europe or North America usually connect through Los Angeles or an Asian hub. Many choose to arrive a day early and board rested rather than straight off a long-haul flight. The marina has supermarkets, pharmacies and a bakery, so last-minute needs are easy to cover, and your crew will have stocked the yacht to your preferences. Our brokers coordinate flights, transfers and any nights before or after the charter.
Kava, Meke and Lovo: Visiting a Fijian Village
A village visit is where a Fiji charter stops being a beach holiday. It begins with sevusevu, the presentation of kava to the village chief as a sign of respect, a custom your crew will brief you on and help arrange. On Naviti, the village of Somosomo welcomes visitors with a meke, the traditional dance, and a lovo, a feast cooked in an earth oven in which the whole village takes part. Dress is modest, hats come off, and you follow your captain’s lead. Guests who go in that spirit are usually the ones who remember it longest.
Reefs, Manta Rays and Soft Coral
Fiji is known for its soft corals, and the reefs close to Port Denarau are an easy introduction. In the Yasawas, the southern tip of Naviti has manta rays visible from May to October for snorkeling or diving, and the passes at the Blue Lagoon offer calmer drifts for those who prefer to stay near the surface. Further afield, Beqa Lagoon, the Great Astrolabe Reef, and Rainbow Reef are destinations for longer trips. Many yachts carry dive gear or can arrange an operator, and we confirm what is available on each yacht before you book. Our Fiji diving guide covers the reefs in more detail.
Questions Guests Ask Before Sailing to Fiji
Fiji is far from most guests’ home airports, and a first charter there raises practical questions that a Mediterranean trip does not: where to board, which season to choose, what the islands offer beyond the beaches. These are the questions our brokers hear most often from guests planning a week or more in the islands.
