Dubai → Palm Jumeirah → Dubai Coast → Arabian Gulf → Yas Island → Saadiyat Island → Abu Dhabi
Dubai and Abu Dhabi are about an hour and a half apart by road, yet they feel like different places. Dubai is built around its skyline and waterfront. Abu Dhabi spreads across islands, beaches and a growing museum district. A one-way yacht charter connects them with the same crew and the same cabin throughout the week.
This seven-night itinerary begins with four nights around Dubai, makes the coastal passage on Day 5 and finishes with three nights in Abu Dhabi waters.
Planning note: This is an illustrative route. The final programme, including cruising areas, berths, transfers and shore activities, is finalised around the selected yacht and dates, subject to commercial operating permissions, weather and local regulations.
Dubai to Abu Dhabi: The Journey at a Glance
The route runs one way, from a Dubai marina to Yas Marina or another suitable Abu Dhabi berth, depending on the yacht. Day 5 is the only long passage. The other days are shorter coastal outings or time spent in one area. Explore the options for a Dubai yacht charter as the starting point.
Day 4 stays flexible, and several afternoons can be adapted to your interests.

Two Emirates, Two Different Paces
Dubai is the city most people picture: Palm Jumeirah’s crescent, Burj Al Arab and a coastline of towers. It is dense with restaurants and evening venues, and the skyline is best appreciated slowly from the water.
Abu Dhabi moves at another pace. Yas Island has its marina and waterfront district; Saadiyat Island brings together resort beaches and Louvre Abu Dhabi, whose perforated dome filters daylight across the plaza. Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is reached by road from the coast.
The yacht ties the two together. You unpack once, and the crew who learned your breakfast habits in Dubai are still serving you in Abu Dhabi.
Why the Route Runs Dubai First
Starting in Dubai gives guests time to settle aboard. The first days involve shorter coastal outings, so the crew and guests can find their rhythm before the longer passage on Day 5.
The week then finishes in Abu Dhabi waters, with more time for beaches, a museum or an unhurried final dinner. Reversing the route may suit different flights or hotel arrangements; we assess that alongside yacht availability and operating permissions.
YOUR 7-NIGHT ROUTE
Dubai to Abu Dhabi, Day by Day
Dubai → Palm Jumeirah → Dubai Coast → Arabian Gulf → Yas Island → Saadiyat Island → Abu Dhabi
Day 1: Welcome Aboard — Dubai from the Water
DUBAI HARBOUR → DUBAI COAST
Short local cruising · Overnight Dubai · Embarkation & Relaxed
Day 1 is light by design. Guests arriving after a long flight have time to settle in before the captain plans a short introduction to Dubai’s waterfront. The embarkation hour should follow the group’s actual arrival and transfer times.
Once the crew has shown you around and you have unpacked, cruise past Dubai Marina’s towers and towards the Palm Jumeirah coastline, as time and conditions allow.
Lunch or an early dinner can be served aboard. This is also a good moment to discuss dietary preferences, restaurant bookings and whether anyone wants a desert experience on Day 4. The evening can be spent aboard or ashore.

YBH INSIDER TIP
Share flight arrival times before choosing the embarkation hour. Allow for immigration, luggage and the transfer to the marina so the first cruise can be planned around the time guests actually reach the yacht.
Day 2: Palm Jumeirah, Burj Al Arab & Dubai’s Iconic Coastline
DUBAI → PALM JUMEIRAH → DUBAI COAST
Short passages · Overnight Dubai · Icons · Burj Al Arab · Swimming where permitted
This is the Dubai coastline familiar from photographs, seen from the sea. Cruise along Palm Jumeirah’s crescent, with views towards Atlantis, then continue towards the Burj Al Arab. The captain chooses a permitted route suited to the yacht and the conditions.
If there is a suitable area to pause and swim, the crew can prepare for it. Otherwise, enjoy lunch aboard while the yacht continues along the coast. Waterfront dining ashore may also be possible when berthing and restaurant arrangements allow.
In the evening, guests can choose between Dubai’s waterfront restaurants and nightlife or a quieter dinner on deck.

YBH INSIDER TIP
Plan photography around the route, not a promised anchorage. Ask the captain which permitted cruising line gives the clearest view of Burj Al Arab and Palm Jumeirah; stopping for photographs and stopping for swimming are two different decisions.
Day 3: Beyond the Skyline — The World Islands & Old Dubai
DUBAI COAST → THE WORLD ISLANDS → OLD DUBAI
Local cruising · Overnight Dubai · Sea · Heritage · Contrast
The morning takes you offshore towards The World Islands, the reclaimed archipelago beyond Dubai’s familiar skyline. It is best treated as a scenic cruise, with any pause or stop dependent on the yacht’s permitted areas and the day’s conditions.
After lunch, return to a suitable marina and continue by private car to Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood, Dubai Creek and the souks. A short abra crossing between Bur Dubai and Deira offers a glimpse of the city’s older trading routes.
Allow three to four hours ashore if you want time to explore rather than simply pass through. Dinner can be arranged aboard or in the city.

Visit Old Dubai as a shore excursion. A private transfer to Al Fahidi and the Creek is more practical than assuming a large yacht can berth close to the historic streets and souks.
Day 4: Dubai at Your Own Pace — Yacht Life or Desert Adventure

DUBAI COASTAL WATERS
Minimal cruising · Overnight Dubai · Flexible · Desert · Lifestyle
Day 4 leaves room for whatever the group has enjoyed most so far. Spend more time on deck, revisit a favourite part of the coast or arrange a private desert experience later in the day.
Desert excursions often run into the evening, so transfers and return times should be agreed in advance. Guests who prefer to stay in Dubai can choose a spa, golf, shopping or an unhurried day aboard.
Keep the evening relaxed: tomorrow brings the longest passage of the week.

Book the desert experience around a clear pickup and return plan. Confirm transfer times with the operator before committing to an evening activity, particularly if the yacht will be departing Dubai the following morning.
Day 5: Dubai to Abu Dhabi — The Journey Along the Arabian Gulf
DUBAI → ABU DHABI / YAS ISLAND
Distance to be confirmed* · Cruising time yacht-dependent · Overnight Abu Dhabi / Yas Island
Passage · Yacht Life · Arrival
The yacht’s cruising speed makes the biggest difference today. The passage follows the UAE coast towards Abu Dhabi; its duration will be calculated from the captain’s actual marina-to-marina route and the selected yacht’s realistic average speed.
Breakfast and lunch can be served underway. On a slower displacement yacht, the passage takes up more of the day and becomes part of the onboard experience. A faster motor yacht may leave more time for Abu Dhabi after arrival.
Yas Marina is one possible arrival point, subject to the yacht’s operating arrangements and a confirmed berth. It sits beside the Yas Marina Circuit, with dining options nearby. After the passage, dinner aboard may be just as appealing as going ashore.
*Passage distance and timing will be finalised from the captain’s plotted route and the selected yacht.
Passage Planning
FAST MOTOR YACHT
A faster cruising speed can make the Dubai–Abu Dhabi passage relatively short, leaving considerably more time at the destination.
DISPLACEMENT YACHT
At a slower cruising speed, the passage becomes a larger part of the day and should be planned as part of the onboard experience rather than simply as transportation.

AFTERNOON

EVENING

YBH INSIDER TIP
Ask for the actual marina-to-marina passage plan. Distance and timing should come from the captain’s intended route, not a straight-line map measurement. A realistic arrival window also helps coordinate the Abu Dhabi berth and any transfers.
Day 6: Saadiyat Island — Where Art Meets the Sea
YAS ISLAND → SAADIYAT ISLAND
Short local cruising · Overnight Abu Dhabi · Beach · Culture · Relaxation
After the longer passage, Day 6 is deliberately lighter. Saadiyat Island brings together resort beaches and the Cultural District, with options for guests who want time ashore and those who prefer to stay aboard.
A visit to Louvre Abu Dhabi can take around two to three hours. We check opening times and transfers against the actual charter dates before confirming the visit.
The group does not need to spend the afternoon together: some guests may explore the museum while others relax aboard or visit a beach venue with suitable access. Everyone can meet again later for dinner.
Two Ways to Spend the Afternoon
CULTURE
Go ashore to discover Louvre Abu Dhabi and Saadiyat’s Cultural District, adding a completely different dimension to the week.
STAY ON THE WATER
Skip the sightseeing. Stay aboard or enjoy a beach venue, with swimming and watersports arranged only where conditions and regulations permit.

Day 7: Abu Dhabi — One Last Day, Entirely Your Own
ABU DHABI WATERS
Short local cruising · Overnight Abu Dhabi · Relaxed · Flexible · Finale
The final full day should reflect what your group has enjoyed most. Some guests will prefer another relaxed day on the water; others may want to visit Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, with its visitor arrangements, dress requirements and road transfer planned in advance.
By now the crew knows the group’s routines and preferences. That makes it easier to choose the right balance of time aboard and experiences ashore without overloading the last day.
Finish with sunset on deck and a farewell dinner prepared by the chef.

YBH INSIDER TIP
Arrange Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque access before the final day. Visitors are asked to obtain an online access pass, and the visiting timetable differs on Fridays; build in the transfer and dress requirements rather than treating it as a spontaneous marina stop.
Day 8: Farewell Abu Dhabi
Enjoy a final breakfast aboard before disembarkation at the agreed Abu Dhabi location.
Your crew will assist with luggage while a private transfer can be arranged to Zayed International Airport, your hotel or the next stage of your UAE journey.
If your flight schedule allows, the end of the charter does not necessarily have to mean the end of the trip. Additional nights in Abu Dhabi can easily be incorporated into the wider itinerary.
What This Route Does Best
Every yacht itinerary has a different character. Here is how this Dubai to Abu Dhabi route compares across the experiences that matter most.
CRUISING
One longer passage on Day 5; otherwise shorter coastal outings.
BEACHES & SWIMMING
Time in the water where permitted areas and conditions allow.
DINING
Private dining aboard plus Dubai’s and Abu Dhabi’s restaurant scenes.
CULTURE
Old Dubai, Louvre Abu Dhabi and the mosque add depth, though shore visits are optional.
NIGHTLIFE
Strongest in Dubai, with selected waterfront venues in Abu Dhabi.
NATURE
An urban-coastal route, not a wilderness charter.
FAMILY FRIENDLY
Shorter local days and varied activities, with the longer passage planned around the group.
Choosing the Right Yacht for Dubai and Abu Dhabi
Cruising speed matters most on the Dubai-to-Abu-Dhabi passage. For the rest of the week, stabilisation, shaded deck space and the layout for water access shape how comfortable it is to live aboard.
CRUISING PERFORMANCE
The yacht’s cruising speed directly affects the Dubai-to-Abu Dhabi passage. A faster motor yacht can reduce time underway, while a displacement yacht may encourage a slower programme built around the journey itself.
SPACE & COMFORT
Stabilisation, shaded exterior areas and comfortable outdoor living spaces are particularly valuable when the yacht becomes your base for several consecutive days.
WATER TOYS & LIFESTYLE
Swim platforms, tenders and water toys can add considerably to the experience, although their use will always depend on permitted areas, local regulations and conditions.

BROKER’S PERSPECTIVE · THE YBH APPROACH
Before recommending a yacht, we check whether its commercial operating arrangements allow the proposed one-way route, then compare cruising speed, berth access and crew. A yacht that suits short outings from Dubai may not be the right choice for seven nights ending in Abu Dhabi.
Experience the Emirates Your Way
No two groups should experience this route in exactly the same way. The itinerary above is our suggested seven-night framework; how much time you spend aboard, ashore or exploring each Emirate should reflect the people travelling.
FAMILY CHARTER
Travelling with Family
Reduce formal sightseeing and introduce more water-toy sessions, beaches and family experiences around Dubai and Yas Island.
COUPLES
A Charter for Two
Slow everything down with longer lunches, spa experiences, private dinners, quieter evenings and fewer scheduled activities ashore.
FOOD & LIFESTYLE
Eating Well, Aboard and Ashore
Build the week around a carefully selected combination of meals prepared aboard and reservations at Dubai and Abu Dhabi’s restaurants and waterfront venues.
CULTURE & DISCOVERY
More Time for Old Dubai and the Louvre
Allow additional time for Old Dubai and Abu Dhabi’s cultural institutions rather than making them brief excursions between yacht activities.
Have More Than Seven Nights?
Don’t simply add more attractions. Use the additional time to slow the itinerary down, spend longer aboard and explore Abu Dhabi waters at a more relaxed pace. View other charter itineraries.
With a private yacht charter, more time should mean more freedom, not a longer checklist.
Can We Reverse the Route?
Yes. Depending on yacht availability and logistics, the itinerary can also operate from Abu Dhabi towards Dubai.
This can be particularly useful when the charter forms part of a longer UAE journey and your international flights, hotels or events make one direction more convenient than the other.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you charter a yacht from Dubai to Abu Dhabi?
Yes. A one-way Dubai-to-Abu Dhabi charter can be organised with suitable yachts operating in the UAE, subject to yacht availability, permitted cruising areas, berth arrangements and the terms of the individual charter.
First-time yacht charter guide
How far is Dubai from Abu Dhabi by yacht?
The exact nautical distance depends on the departure marina, final destination and selected route.
We do not publish a fixed marina-to-marina figure until the captain has plotted the intended passage. The full week adds local cruising around Dubai and Abu Dhabi, so its total distance is different from the inter-emirate passage alone.
How long does it take to cruise from Dubai to Abu Dhabi?
Cruising time depends on the plotted distance and the yacht’s realistic average speed. For illustration only, a hypothetical 60-nautical-mile route would take about three hours at 20 knots or six hours at 10 knots, before any speed restrictions or manoeuvring.
Sea conditions, maritime traffic, local regulations and the captain’s selected route can also affect timing. Once your yacht is confirmed, we refine the itinerary around its actual cruising performance.
What is the best time for a Dubai and Abu Dhabi yacht charter?
November to April is generally the most comfortable period for a UAE yacht charter, with the coolest weather typically from December to February.
Summer temperatures can exceed 40°C, making time on deck and ashore less comfortable. If your dates fall outside the cooler months, the daily programme should be planned accordingly.
Where does the yacht stay overnight — in a marina or at anchor?
A Dubai-to-Abu Dhabi itinerary can combine marina stays with time away from the dock, depending on the yacht, local regulations, weather and your preferred style of charter.
Guests who enjoy restaurants and nightlife may prefer more marina time, while those prioritising privacy and life aboard may favour more time on the water whenever conditions allow. The final berthing programme is therefore arranged around the individual yacht and itinerary.
Can we change the itinerary during the charter?
Yes. Flexibility is one of the principal advantages of chartering a private yacht.
The published itinerary is a framework rather than a fixed schedule. The captain can adapt the programme according to weather, sea conditions, berth availability, operational requirements and your preferences, provided any changes remain safe, permitted and feasible.
Can we charter for fewer than seven nights?
Potentially. Shorter charters depend on yacht availability, season and owner approval.
For a significantly shorter charter, we would generally recommend concentrating on one area rather than trying to reproduce the entire seven-night Dubai-to-Abu Dhabi programme.
Can every charter yacht cruise from Dubai to Abu Dhabi?
Not necessarily. A yacht’s permitted cruising area and commercial operating arrangements can affect where it can charter within the UAE. When proposing a Dubai-to-Abu Dhabi itinerary, we check the selected yacht’s operational suitability for the intended route before the programme is finalised.
Is Dubai or Abu Dhabi better for a yacht charter?
They offer different experiences rather than competing ones. Dubai is particularly strong for waterfront lifestyle, restaurants, architecture and nightlife, while Abu Dhabi offers a more relaxed atmosphere with beaches, cultural attractions and island environments.
Combining both allows guests to experience these contrasts within a single charter.
Is this Dubai to Abu Dhabi itinerary suitable for children?
It can be, particularly for families who enjoy a mix of time aboard, city experiences and cultural visits. The main consideration is the longer passage between the two Emirates: we would choose the yacht, departure timing and onboard activities around the children’s ages and comfort at sea.
What yacht size or type works best for this itinerary?
A professionally crewed motor yacht with comfortable exterior spaces and suitable cruising performance is often a practical choice. There is no universal ideal length: guest numbers, stabilisation, crew, berth access and the yacht’s permitted commercial operating area matter more than size alone.
Can we swim and use the water toys?
Swimming and water toys may be possible in suitable locations, but their use depends on permitted areas, conditions, local rules and the captain’s assessment. We plan the programme around your preferences and explain any restrictions before the charter.
