SEYCHELLES YACHT CHARTER ENQUIRY
In this article, we discover together 5 aspects that characterize this country trying to go beyond the fantastic beaches or the postcard landscapes that we usually imagine when we fantasize about these exotic places.
But first, let’s try to better understand where we are:
Where are Seychelles?
The Republic of Seychelles is an island nation located more than 900 miles off the coast of East Africa in the Indian Ocean. The country comprises 115 different islands, many of which are uninhabited.
The history and culture of this country have long been influenced by both the French and the British, but also to a large extent by the people from mainland Africa, torn from their lands and brought here into slavery. For this reason, the islands are an interesting mix of cultures with three official languages: English, French, and Creole.
What is the climate during the year?
In Seychelles, there is a warm tropical climate throughout the year, with average daily temperatures between 26 and 32 degrees. Due to the proximity to the equator, temperatures remain almost unchanged throughout the year, making Seychelles open to visitors in any month of the year. However, there are some minimal seasonal differences caused by trade winds. These small differences make some months more suitable for certain activities (eg snorkeling, trekking, etc.) than others.
From December to March, the average temperature is around 28 ° C. In this period showers are not rare but they are intense but short rains.
The months of April and November are the so-called transition months, as that’s when the winds change. Temperatures reach 30 ° C – 31 ° C and this heat can seem even more intense due to the absence of wind and the high air humidity.
At the same time, the absence of wind guarantees excellent visibility in the seabed.
Finally, from May until the beginning of October, temperatures between 25 ° C and 29 ° C are recorded. It is a little rainy period cooled by pleasant winds. The conditions are perfect for those who want to go sailing or windsurfing while the sea is a little rougher.
5 Reasons why you should discover Seychelles by yacht
Now that we have clarified a little better what destination we are talking about, it is time to list the 5 reasons why we think it is worthwhile to organize a boat trip to Seychelles. Of course, a country of beautiful islands and enchanting scenery doesn’t need any particular reason to be visited. We, therefore, focused on the less obvious aspects of the common imagination. Let’s see:
- Visit the two UNESCO World Heritage Sites
You may not know that Seychelles boasts two world heritage sites. These are the Vallée de Mai and the Aldabra atoll.
The Vallee de Mai is located on the island of Praslin and is a virgin forest rich in local fauna unique in the world. It is a must-see for any Seychellois visitor and the best place to see the famous Coco de Mer in abundance.
The Aldabra Atoll, which is part of the chain of outer islands, is much more difficult to reach, but if you are allowed to get there you will not regret it thanks to the infinite beauty that surrounds it. There is no way to land a helicopter or plane so you need to arrive directly by boat.
- Go on a trek
A world of adventure awaits you in Seychelles, even away from the sea. The larger islands are in fact dotted with rugged mountains and verdant jungle, all relatively untouched and ready to be explored.
There are walks and hikes suitable for all levels of fitness and ability.
There are two famous itineraries on the island of Mahé: The Anse Major path which is an easy walk through incredible granite boulders and the more challenging hike to Morne Seychellois, the highest point on the island that offers breathtaking views.
The island of Praslin, on the other hand, is known for the Anse Georgette path, a moderate trek between two beautiful beaches on the northern tip of the island.
- Enjoy Creole cuisine
The local cuisine is a fusion of multiple styles and influences from all over the world, as is the population. A mixture of flavors and tastes that are sometimes reminiscent of Africa, sometimes China, Europe, and even India and which give life to delicious Creole dishes inspired, of course, by the generosity of the sea.
Some popular delicacies are the Zourit (octopus), made into a creamy curry or the Tec Tec, small mussels collected on the beach and then cooked with pumpkin in a delicious soup.
For the more daring and adventurous palates, we recommend trying the local shark chutney or even the bat curry, a dish available in most Creole takeaways.
- Visit the seabed
Seychelles offer scenarios and opportunities for every diver, from the expert to the novice, from coral gardens to deep-sea wrecks rich in wildlife.
The inland group of islands, Mahé, La Digue, and Praslin, are the main islands for diving. They are the remnants of a submerged mountain range and nestle on a shallow plateau with prolific marine life.
The Outer Islands, located south of the archipelago, are all coral or sandy islets and mostly uninhabited, offering to experienced divers excellent locations.
- Take part in the Carnival
Carnival in Seychelles is becoming more and more an extremely popular event, not only locally but worldwide, with participants from all over the world, the Carnival of Seychelles is proving itself on the great stage of the world carnivals.
The event has recently been moved from April to October to align with the annual Creole Festival. There is always a great party atmosphere and at the same time, it is a wonderful way to get to know and celebrate the mix of people that is the culture and history of Seychelles.
