Charter Info

Planning YourBoatHoliday
When planning a boat charter for a multi-day excursion, there are numerous things to take into consideration and charter info to get. We will assist you, providing you all the answers to your questions, from what size of yacht to choose, and whether you’d be more comfortable in a motor yacht, sailing yacht, motorsailer, catamaran or gulet. We will help you customize your itinerary according to your preferences and charter duration in order for you to live your best sailing experience ever.

Charter Info to ask when considering which yacht to charter:

  • How many guests will be in the party?
  • Does your group consist of pairs who can share the same cabin or do some crew members require a separate cabin?
  • How many cabins are required?
  • Where do you want to cruise?
  • When do you want to go, and for how long?
  • What is your overall budget?
  • Are you more interested in a motor yacht or sailing yacht?
  • Are there any specific facilities or requirements?
  • Do you prefer bareboat, skippered or crewed charter?
  • What level of crew service do you require?

Obviously the choice of your boat depends completely on your wishes and preferences.

Yourboatholiday includes the following vessel types:

  • Sailing boats – Entertainment, sport and relax at the same time
  • Catamarans – Great stability and very comfortable, ensure fast sailing
  • Gulets – Use the power of engine and sails to move and all have crews
  • Motor boats – For speed sailing enthusiasts
  • Yachts – Luxury and comfortable

Of course the choice depends on you. If you’re not an expert sailor and prefer to sail with more stability, catamaran is the right one. It has two hulls, it’s unsinkable and usually offers more space and comfort. Moreover catamarans have shallow craft in order to make the access to land and bays easier.

If you prefer to choose your boat on your own, you can do so by using our Online Database system. Seven days is generally the boat charter period accepted, but charters can be for any duration less and over a week

If you are not a professional sailor and you do not possess a officially recognized sailing licence, you are obliged to hire a skipper. In some countries, the law permits to sail without the sailing licence. Of course to do so you must have a long-years sailing experience and you have to consider that, based upon the law of every single country in the world, it could be required an especially insurance depending on the lenght and type of the vessel. The other options are to choose a crewed or skippered charter or to take an exam and obtain the licence. We’ll be happy to give your the best tips and details about your situation and if you prefer it, to organize you the exam to obtain the licence.

Step aboard one of our luxury solutions for an exceptional vacation getaway. Let your own personal captain take you island hopping as a gourmet chef prepares meals geared specifically to your taste. Your personal crew is on board to make every day run smoothly while ensuring each seafaring detail is a treasured memory.

The crew could be composed by the captain and another crew member. It’s also possibile to request an hostess and/or chef service. The crew is on board to take care of any guests needs. Together with the skipper (or the other crew members) the hostess cleans and tidies up the boat and cooks for the guests.

A yacht’s crew will work extremely hard and very long hours to make sure that your charter is a total success, and whilst not mandatory it is customary to leave a gratuity (tip) at the end of a charter. For excellent service it is typical to leave a tip (covering all the crew members) between 5-10% of the charter fee, which will be given to each one individually,  or to the captain for disbursement to the rest of the crew.

The charter fee generally covers only the hire of the yacht and crew, all other expenses are in addition to the charter fee. These additional expenses are covered by the Advance Provisioning Allowance. The APA is usually 20% of the charter fee. This is given to the yacht in cash prior to your charter to allow the captain to buy fuel, provision the yacht with food and drink as per your demands, and cover any other expenses relating to the cost of your charter (including fuel for RIB or other tenders or jet skis, fuel for generators; consumable stores; berthing dues and other harbour charges away from the yacht’s own berth, including pilotage fees and charges for water and electricity taken from the shore; laundry, telephone, fax or telex via radio or Inmarsat). At the end of the charter, the captain will produce full accounts of all expenditure. Any APA not used will be returned to you at the end of the charter as you leave. On the other hand, if expenses exceed the APA (maybe excessive cruising so high fuel costs, requests of rare liquors, etc.) you will be expected to reimburse the yacht as you leave the charter. This is rare but you need to be aware of this possible expense.

Changes of the crew are possible – however, this should be indicated in advance, before embarkation, so as to make crew lists, on which the dates of changes as well information on people joining or leaving the crew will be specified. Our guests receive a blank crew list, which they fill in with the crew details both before and after the change (the date of the change should be indicated as well). The complete crew list can be sent to us via email.

Before taking over the vessel, the charter agency will provide the guests with a verified crew list with data both before and after the change, which the guests need to have during the sailing trip.

If the crew suddenly changes during the cruise, without previous notice, the guests are obliged to contact the charter agency and inform them about the change in order for them to send the new verified crew list. The new list can then be sent via mail to the guests (to any place where they are at that moment). In case of a control, the guests need to present the new crew list, although they are obliged to keep the old one as well.

Usually most of the larger vessels have wifi available on board. Just to be sure please ask us if wifi is available on the boat you have selected otherwise we can arrange it for you if possible.

Skippered charters are designed to assist those with little or no sailing experience to sail without the responsibility of being in charge. The skipper is provided to sail and be responsible for your yacht, with you assisting and learning from them. Even if you have experience in sailing but are not sure in your manoeuvring skills, it is strongly recommended to hire a professional skipper for at least several days, in order to make your cruise more relaxing. You can also benefit from the skippers’ local knowledge – they will be able to suggest you the most interesting places for swimming and fun, as well as finding the securest bays for berth. We can reserve the skipper for you.

If not specified in the contract, the skipper’s services are paid separately from the charter fee. The guests are obliged to pay them (also those of a hostess or a cook) as well as food and drink for the skipper or the other crew members. On gulets, the crew expenses (those of a captain, a sailor and a cook) are already included in the charter fee. In case of crewed charter (for example on yachts), the crew expenses are included in the charter fee.

Usually the skipper sleeps in the salon area, but in case your are chartering a bigger boat, the skipper has his own cabin. Every vessel is registered for a certain number of people and it’s not legal to exceed this number. If this number does not include a berth in the salon area, the skipper is required to have his own cabin.

In case you possess any kind of a sailing license please be sure to send it to us via email , so that we can check its validity with the charter agency as well as the authorities before chartering a vessel, depending on the destinations you are going to sail.

All bareboat companies require you to complete a sailing resume when you book your yacht. They will evaluate your ability to command the yacht by yourself based upon what you put down on your resume and either approve it or reject it. It’s important to be truthful when completing your resume because if the manager feels that your abilities don’t measure up to your resume when he checks you out, he has the right to place a captain aboard at your expense. In some destinations, particularly Europe and the Med, a sailing license may be required. As such requirements vary, it is best to contact the bareboat company or agent that you are working with to find out what licensing requirements apply, if any. It is also a legal requirement for one member of the crew to be qualified for the operation with the VHF station (posessing the VHF licence).

The term bareboat charter signifies an arrangement for the hiring of a boat or ship without crew and the people renting the boat from the owner are responsible for appointing the crew and making other arrangements. The choice is yours to explore the most breathtaking locations, so take your place in the nautical world and set out insearching of something new.

If you are interested in joining a group we advice you to choose a gulet for your boat holiday, a perfect solution to share a vessel, meeting new people and enjoying the journey with the comfort of a crew.

For any details do not hesitate to contact us and our team will be happy to give you all the informations required and receive your inquiries.

If you like we can arrange for a vehicle to pick you up from the airport or your hotel to take you to the yacht as well as when the charter is over.

A few of the more common activities which yacht charter guests can enjoy depending onthe type and size of yacht you charter may include kayaking, jet skiing, water skiing, wakeboarding, snorkeling, swimming, sunbathing, fishing and sailing.

Due to the fact that weather can be unpredictable and in some cases the ports authorities will not allow sailing due to rough weather or high seas. In this case depending on your port of departure we can plan a backup itinerary or your captain can offer a alternative route weather permitting.

Important items to bring should be sun glasses, suntan lotion, a hat, beach towels, a k-way, any medications you might need, sandals or deckshoes.

You could also ask the personnel of the charter agency for some suggestions during your check-in procedure in the marina.

If you like we can arrange for a vehicle to pick you up from the airport or your hotel to take you to the yacht as well as when the charter is over.

If you are not sure which one is your destination, check out our suggested ones. Whatever you choose, sailing you’ll visit the most desirable locations, staying in different places every night without re-packing and learning about the region without tours. There aren’t age limit for a sailing experience. Obviously adults must monitor closely the children while they are on board. Be sure to find a safe cabin, the best is the front one and a safe place to let them play (a location could be the cockpit). So children can go sailing from an early age, but in any case we advice you to put a safety net along the side of the boat and that kids wear life vests. Make sure to bring baby food along, because during your sailing you won’t have always the possibility to find it in any marina’s market. Of course having the opportunity to start living the sea since young age, it’s a really lucky occasion also because during a sailing experience children, as adults, learn skills that are valuable for a lifetime.

The vessels are returned to the base on the second-last day afternoon with an overnight on board till the last morning between 8am and 9am, when the check-out procedure is done. At that time the guests should leave the boat, so that it can be cleaned and prepared for new guests. The vessel can also be returned to the base on the last day, but make sure it is before 8am, in order for guests to have enough time to fill the tank before leaving the vessel.

So if you haved booked a weekly charter, you’ll have to return to the base on friday afternoon or, at most on saturday morning. However, this should be indicated in advance, before embarkation.

If you can’t wait anymore to start your boat holiday and you are arriving before the time determined for taking over the vessel (usually the time for check-in is communicated in advance) contact us, notifying the approximately time of your arrival and our team will try to arrange with the charter agency to have the vessel delivered to you earlier, which is possible if it is not too crowded in the marina at that time. In case you are arriving on Friday or earlier and need some help in finding suitable accommodation, please feel free to contact us.
